Bio

Hello! I’m a multidisciplinary artist/writer, living in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. I work with abstract painting, drawing, poetry and performance to explore my ideas.

Following art school (where I specialised in performance art) I became severely burnt-out, and spent many years living an art-free life, attempting to be a normal person. When I turned thirty, I was hit by the urge to create again, and I haven’t stopped since.

I paint spontaneously, in a multi-layered process of visceral mark-making. I aim to create a material dialogue using heavy-handed oil paint, cold wax medium, charcoal and ink. I’m particularly interested in exploring shame, sexuality, self-imposed societal/capitalist pressure, class consciousness and practices of care and mutuality.

I hold a deep love for the uncanny, folklore and general mythmaking/magical thinking weirdness, particularly through a queer, feminist, disobedient lens.

I also write poetry, and regularly have my work published. I maintain a regular studio practice at In A Land studio in Hebden Bridge, where I also lead creative workshops (including abstract oil painting, drawing, haunted poetry and poetic forms)
